Shekhinah’s doors opened to 14-year-old Esther when her school expelled her for unpaid fees – the final blow after years of patchy attendance caring for her dying grandmother. Today, she’s caught up through our accelerated learning program and mentors younger girls in our “Pad Project” (making reusable sanitary supplies). “I missed so much school during…that time,” Esther shares quietly. “Now I know even periods can’t stop God’s plans.” Our gender-sensitive dormitories and health education ensure girls never sacrifice education for biology.
We combat Uganda’s orphan education crisis through four key initiatives: scholarships covering all school requirements, onsite tutoring to fill learning gaps, vocational training for older students, and a “Second Chance” program helping teens complete primary education. Sixteen-year-old Moses, who spent years scraping metal at a junkyard, recently scored in the top 10% on national exams through our intensive catch-up classes. “The teachers here didn’t shame me for being behind,” he says. “They stayed after lessons until I understood.”
The results testify to God’s faithfulness: 92% of Shekhinah children complete primary education (versus 40% national average for orphans), with 18 currently in university through our higher education fund. Your $40 monthly sponsorship doesn’t just provide books – it unlocks a lifetime of potential. As our founder often says: “We’re not just saving children from the streets; we’re preparing leaders for Uganda’s future.”
